Private WAN — One Reel

One Reel

"This is the ideal solution for us in so many ways. It's enabled us to have a professional level of connectivity between our San Francisco and Seattle offices far beyond what budget and staffing would normally allow for an organization of our size. In many ways, it's like a WAN without the expense and infrastructure. It allows us to offer services that we wouldn't be able to otherwise, and almost all support can be done from Seattle. And because of Speakeasy's uptime guarantees, I go to sleep at night with great confidence our network will be accessible to our staff."

— Robert Carpenter, Director of Information Services, One Reel

Company Background

Seattle-based One Reel is the nonprofit arts organization behind such venerable Seattle festivals as Bumbershoot and Family Fourth of July, the Summer Nights concert series, and Teatro Zinzanni, a dinner theatre in Seattle and San Francisco. The organization has hugely fluctuating staff levels, with a core group of about 150 employees needing fast, secure, reliable inter-office connectivity—but on a nonprofit budget.

Overview

  • Challenge
One Reel needed the professional connectivity of a WAN but didn't have the financial or technical resources to support it. In order to minimize the amount of IT management and support needed, One Reel needed a transparent and intuitive solution for its employees, many of whom work on laptops and travel between offices. In the concert and events business, a lost connection means lost revenue, so the company needed reliable connectivity and fast resolutions when issues arise, particularly since IT resources are stretched thin.
  • Solution
With a direct connection via Private WAN, One Reel can easily test and deploy software much faster—and everything is managed locally. Speakeasy Private WAN offers users a seamless network experience—it's as if employees in San Francisco are in the Seattle office. Speakeasy's service runs in the background of the Private WAN, offering excellent uptime and mission-critical reliability. Additionally, data on the Private WAN never touches the public Internet, which can suffer slowdowns.
  • Results
By utilizing Speakeasy Private WAN and only having a single network to manage instead of three, One Reel estimates it saves 30% on networking infrastructure costs. They were able to reduce IT overhead costs for an annual savings of at least $20,000. And on average, employees now save about two hours each a month on network-related questions and problems. One Reel estimates that technical support calls to Speakeasy are resolved 30% more quickly than with previous providers.
